There’s a new kid on the block in Shaw and he’s cooking up something tasty. Meet Seasonal Pantry, the newest venture from Ali Bagheri and Daniel O’Brien at 1314 1/2 9th St. NW (close to both the Shaw and U St. metro stops). O’Brien, a former sous-chef at some well-known DC hotspots, has moved into the neighborhood and we couldn’t be more excited.
The pantry is part gourmet grocer, restaurant and supplier of some tasty homemade goods. If you want to stop in and pick up a fresh cut of meat, their butcher has a great selection including fresh pork chops, chicken, veil and even quail.
If you’re not up to the cooking challenge, they also offer a variety of prepared items such as chicken pot pie and meatballs. One of the best things about Seasonal Pantry is their monthly clubs. For example, September is “Fresh Pasta” month, where $35 gets you two types of handmade pastas per week as well as some special pasta sauces in-hand at your first pick-up.
The real treat here though is their Supper Club, which runs Friday, Saturday and Sunday evenings throughout the year. The pantry is turned into a mini-restaurant where lucky diners gather around a communal table and experience from 3 to 12 courses, depending on the type of meal being served that week. You can reserve up to a party of six and you must purchase a ticket in advance. The menu changes weekly and is posted just before reservations open up. For more information on the Supper Club, click here.
If you can’t make it for dinner, be sure to stop in and take home something from their amazing selection. Let us know what you think in the comments section and be sure to view some condos in the neighborhood, here. Who knows–you might end up walking there one night soon!
