DC Photo Collage: The White House, and Its Cast of Characters, Covered in Snow
Whenever I’m in Dupont Circle or Foggy Bottom and need to go to ChinatownI walk past the White House. It really is magnificent, and seeing it never loses its luster. Although, maybe equally as fascinating is the cast of characters that flank Pennsylvania Avenue’s pedestrian strip and the neighborhood on a daily basis. These are some photos I took in an attempt to capture the White House after a snowfall, as well as a couple of these DC cultural icons in action. I need to go back on a weekend to get a picture of the roller hockey game that is played in the middle of the street.
The Presidential Home, covered in snow, in all its glory.
Policemen on Pennsylvania Avenue can always be counted on to protect the peace, and also, intimidate the peace.
This guy is awesome. He works out on a daily basis on the sidewalk across the street from the White House. He’s pictured here doing the norm: shoulder shrug with a barbell in 20 degree weather surrounded by snow.
This lady, Concepcion Picciotto, is now pretty well renowned. Concepcion has been protesting across the street from the White House since 1981, and only leaves for, what she told DCist in an interview in 2005, “my necessities that I have to move as a human being.” Read that interview in its entirety on DCist.
