In celebration of Black History month, I would like to dedicate this blog post to a notable person that was actually born in Washington, DC which is none other than Duke Ellington. As most of us might be familiar with Duke Ellington being a composer, a pianist, and a great band leader, Duke Ellington was born on April 29, 1889 and lived at 2129 Ida Place which is now called “Ward Place” in the West End neighborhood of Washington, DC. In memory of Duke Ellington’s death, Washington DC has dedicated a school in his honor called “Duke Ellington School of Arts“ and a mural that is located at 1214 U Street Northwest, Washington DC in the Shaw neighborhood.
Cool uh? If you find this area to be a fantastic place to live , check out these five homes where the legendary Duke Ellington was born in the West End neighborhood.
