HGTV Selects First DC Home For “My First Sale”

Mark Wellborn over at UrbanTurf is reporting that HGTV has selected it’s first home to be featured on Washington, DC’s edition of My First Sale.
The home might be surprising to some. While many were expecting the DC homes on the program to be represented by chic, up-scale neighborhoods like Dupont Circle or West End, the chosen home isn’t even in the same quadrant.
The home, located at 1214 U Street in Southeast, is an Anacostia DC home that has been refurbished.

Free Rent Not Good Enough to Entice Chipotle East of the Anacostia

Chipotle has turned down an offer to operate rent-free in Fairlawn in SE, according to the Washington Post and Washington City Paper.
“Developer Tim Chapman offered retail space in the new 118-unit residential complex to Chipotle rent free,” Lydia DePillis of City Paper wrote. ”That’s practically begging. Still, the burrito chain turned him down. And, verily, Chipotle has no locations outside of Northwest Washington, though that will change (barely) when a store opens in Union Station.”

The revelation is a troubling one, as many were hoping this to be the year that Southeast’s development took off.
