A recent report from MRIS has released the top ten list of green neighborhoods in the Washington, DC metropolitan area. Some of these neighborhoods are noted for their green communities and green homes featuring green elements in the home such as bamboo flooring, green roofing of plants, recycled glass tiles, dual flush toilets, and geo-thermal heat pumps.

United States Homes Are At A 13% Vacancy Rate

According to CNNMoney, the national vacancy rate of houses has crept up to 13 percent. The chief economist for Metrostudy Brad Hunter states “”More vacant homes equal more downward pressure on home prices”.
Reports show that Maine had the highest home vacancy rate of 22.8%, Vermont (20.5%), Florida (17.5%), Arizona (16.3%), and Alaska (15.9%). The census appears to lump homes, but ski lodges, beach homes, or second homes as part of the vacancy rate.
