St. Patricks DC

First of all, Happy St. Patrick’s Day from us at CondoDomain DC!
The forecast is for a beautiful weather today for you to explore Irish culture and tradition.  But as the Going out Gurus’ Fritz Hahn wrote, the majority of DC will “explore Irish culture and tradition” today in bars.

“Wednesday is St. Patrick’s Day,” Hahn wrote.  ”And of course there are plenty of Irish cultural opportunities in the city. But let’s be honest — when it comes down to it, there’s one place that really dominates this particular holiday: the bar.”
Well …

Dupont Circle DC Condos

Just as I was getting off the Dupont Circle Metro to walk towards Foggy Bottom at around 3 pm, I saw hordes of people standing around staring to the sky.  I soon joined them, and realized that they were looking at a stream of smoke above the building that houses Levante’s restaurant on 19th street. Fire trucks soon swarmed the scene.
“(The fire) started shortly after the lunch hour today, and is currently being fought by a number of DC’s Bravest. Engine 4 (Hornet’s Nest) Ladder 9 and Ladder 14, and …

Downtown DC Condos

After about six months of not running, the DC Circulator bus will return to service during the Cherry Blossom Festival, according to Kytja Weir of the Washington Examiner.
The bus had its service suspended in late 2009, as DC said it would save the city almost $140,000. The bus’ Smithsonian/National Mall route will return at 10 a.m. on March 27. The route will circle around the U.S. Capitol, the Mall and 17th Street.
“The Circulator is the one of the only and cheapest modes of public transportation to get directly to …

Downtown DC Condos

Just over a month ago I wrote that rumors had the hit Bravo cooking show Top Chef coming to film in DC for its 7th season.  Well, according to Terri Rupar and Joe Yonan of the Washington Post’s Breaking News Blog, those aren’t rumors, they’re reality. The blog reports that sources say the show will be filmed here in the nation’s capital this coming spring.

The DC Metro area already has very strong ties to Top Chef.  Here are some of the connections to the area:
Brian Voltaggio, whose brother Michael won …

There’s a fun little write-up on We Love DC about how to move into a new home in the District.  Tom Bridge, the writer of the article, explains the trials and tribulations he and his wife have experienced during their move into DC.
Bridge writes that there are a number of things one should know regarding switching homes in the Capital City.
“My wife and I are in the process of handling a number of niggling little tasks related to our impending move into the District,” Bridge writes. “And this short post …

Amtrak will offer free wireless internet service on 20 high-speed Acela express trains.
“The service is free for now, and available to both business and first class passengers on all 20 Acela trains,”  Jeff Clabaugh of the Washington Business Journal wrote yesterday.  ”Amtrak says it will decide whether to charge for the Wi-Fi service after an introductory period, and base its decision on customer demand and system performance.”
In addition to the trains, the free wireless service will also be offered at numerous stations.  Washington, Philadelphia, Baltimore, Boston, New York and Providence, …

DC Condos

While I believe that most DC residents are generally relatively polite and nice, we all have our nasty days. We have days when we get in trouble with the boss, days when we get a fat bill from Pepco, and days when we get screwed by the Metro.

On these days, even the nicest of DC residents can turn evil, a sort of Jekyll and Hyde-esque transformation.  It’s on these days that car horns blare in the streets, doors to coffee shops aren’t held open, and seats on the train aren’t surrendered …

DC Condominiums

Just read an interesting story by Michelle Lerner of UrbanTurf from earlier this week.  Lerner wrote about the increase of DC residents over the past year, and how that might be related to DC’s education system.
“The steady exodus of families from DC to the suburbs for the promise of better schools may be slowing,” Lerner wrote at the beginning of her piece.  ”Anecdotal and hard evidence suggest that more families are opting to stay in DC and send their kids to public schools rather than retreat to the suburbs.”
The statistics …

The NoMa neighborhood is getting more additions.  According to Missy Frederick of the Washington Business Journal, the newcomers will include more places to eat, as well the area’s first full-service bank.
NoMa, which stands for North Of Massachusetts Avenue, is a community that continues to grow.  Just north of Capitol Hill and Union Station, NoMa is a former industrial neighborhood that is changing quickly.  Now, tons of state-of-the-art DC condominiums and apartments are sprouting up all over NoMa, as well as new businesses.
