The Washington Business Journal is reporting that Alexandria will soon be getting brand new apartments. Soon as in 2012 that is…but regardless, this is great news for the area. The Alexandria area has tons of Northern Virginia condominiums and Northern Virginia apartments, and this will be another welcome addition.
“The 344-unit luxury apartment building will be built on Holland Lane near Ballenger Avenue in the city’s Carlyle section near the Patent and Trademark Office headquarters.

Cool piece by Will Smith at UrbanTurf from yesterday.
Smith explores the connection between the introduction of grocery stores to certain DC neighborhoods and the subsequent rise of the community’s they call home.
“Recent examples abound: the “urban lifestyle” Safeway in the ground floor of CityVista at 5th and L Street NW is always one of the first amenities cited by residents of Mount Vernon Triangle,” Smith wrote. ”In rapidly changing but oft-overlooked Southwest, the neighborhood is abuzz over the sparkling new renovation of an existing Safeway that was long derided as …

The forecast is for a beautiful weather today for you to explore Irish culture and tradition. But as the Going out Gurus’ Fritz Hahn wrote, the majority of DC will “explore Irish culture and tradition” today in bars.

In a really well-written article published over the weekend in the Washington Post, UrbanTurf writers Will Smith and Mark Wellborn chronicled the transformation of the Mount Vernon Triangle area in downtown DC. The neighborhood, which now features beautiful, state-of-the-art DC condo buildings like the City Vista properties, used to be known as a seedy community.
“A few years ago, Mount Vernon Triangle was an area known for parking lots and prostitution,” Smith and Wellborn’s article reads. ”Today, it is a popular destination in the District for young home buyers, where new high-rise …

Right now, Washington, DC is like a volcano before eruption, except instead of lava, real estate and condo potential is going ooze all over the city streets.
DC locals have long seen their own city as the nation’s punching bag. Politicians come in and out every couple of years but don’t really embrace the city: Right jab. Tourists only visit the National Mall and neglect the rest of the city: Left hook. Taxation without representation: Below the belt kick to the groin. The Redskins haven’t had more than 10 wins in a season …
