Just over a month ago I wrote that rumors had the hit Bravo cooking show Top Chef coming to film in DC for its 7th season. Well, according to Terri Rupar and Joe Yonan of the Washington Post’s Breaking News Blog, those aren’t rumors, they’re reality. The blog reports that sources say the show will be filmed here in the nation’s capital this coming spring.
The DC Metro area already has very strong ties to Top Chef. Here are some of the connections to the area:
Brian Voltaggio, whose brother Michael won …

A brilliantly modern condominium located in Chinatown is available for purchase $2,495,000. Props to UrbanTurf for profiling the property and bringing it to our attention. The Chinatown condo, which is located at 475 H Street NW, looks simply incredible, but, as UrbanTurf pointed out it is a unit for a buyer with a specific taste.
“The ultra-modern three-level, three-bedroom unit was designed by architect Robert Gurney and has a layout and design that is not often seen in DC,” UrbanTurf’s Mark Wellborn wrote. ”Each floor is about 100-feet deep and the …

The developers of the Residences at Gallery Place are suing the building’s condominium association, according to Washington Business Journal reporter Sarah Krouse. Akridge and Western Development Corporation, the developer and owner of the building, is claiming that the building’s condo board hasn’t been forking over standard community costs.
“Akridge and Western Development Corp. say the association has not paid common-area maintenance costs since 2007 and was late paying $126,590 in insurance costs,” Krouse wrote. ”The team is calling for $458,630 in damages plus interest, attorneys fees and a judgment that would require …

Developers in certain neighborhoods throughout DC have a chance to receive $145,000 in pre-development grant money, Washington Business Journal’s Jonathan O’Connell reported yesterday.
“Money can be used toward developers’ costs related to planning, environmental work, accounting, market studies, soil testing, legal services and other expenses,” O’Connell wrote.
Builders in the following neighborhoods are eligible for the money:
Anacostia, Bellevue, Bloomingdale/Eckington, Brightwood/Upper Georgia Avenue, Brookland/Edgewood, Columbia Heights, Congress Heights, Deanwood Heights, H Street NE, Logan Circle, Shaw and Washington Highlands.
(Communities like Columbia Heights could benefit from the grant money)
These neighborhoods already have numerous DC Condos …

According to our friends at Trulia, almost 25 percent of the homes in DC and Maryland were reduced during February. DC actually reached 25 percent, while Maryland came in close behind at 24 percent. The data evaluated each state’s(as well as DC) real estate progress last month.
DC and Maryland were in the top five of home price reductions, joined by Arizona, Massachusetts, and Hawaii. While certain regions are clearly feeling the effects of price reductions, California certainly isn’t.
“Six major cities in California also occupy the lowest percent of current listings …

Several days ago, I posted our CondoLoft poll of the week, with the question asking how long will it be before the Capitol Riverfront community in Southeast really takes off. If you haven’t voted, please do. It is a question that is a big one around town, as many DC real estate folks will watch the neighborhood’s future to see whether the plans for the community come to fruition.
Just days after our poll, UrbanTurf writer Tim Brown wrote a really in-depth article profiling the community, and its current status.
“Slowly …

This week’s edition of Rent vs. Buy on UrbanTurf examines the Dupont Circle neighborhood. While most communities in DC are fairly cut and dry when it comes to deciding whether to rent or buy, writer Michelle Lerner explained that Dupont Circle is slightly more complicated.
It is clear that Dupont is one of the prime places to live in DC. Not only does it have a true sense of community because of its numerous cafes, bars, restaurants, small art galleries and shops, but it also has the ultimate location. Within blocks …

New DC condominiums could be headed to the 14th Street Corridor.
According to Sarah Krouse of the Washington Business Journal, JBG Cos. “closed on its purchase of Swann Drycleaners, the last parcel needed for its condominium project on the site of the historic Whitman-Walker Clinic”.

The 14th Street Corridor has been one of the hottest neighborhoods in DC during the recent condo craze. Because of its location in the heart of Downtown DC, but also its small-town, community feel, the 14th Street neighborhood has become one of the …
